Nick Horne: Experienced Leadership
Upper Tantallon resident Nick Horne is a small-business owner with a passion for serving our community, and an established track record for getting things done. A Nova Scotia native, husband, and father of two boys, Nick has lived in the Halifax Region his whole life and in Hammonds Plains St. Margaret’s for more than 13 years.
Nick’s passion for municipal politics was ignited when, as part of the Westwood Hills Residents Association, he helped lead 2015 opposition to the Tantallon asphalt plant. As vice-chair of HRM's North West Planning Advisory Committee - a group integral to the planning process through its informed recommendations to Regional Council—he understands process, and how to navigate municipal politics.
He has served as board Chair and frequent spokesperson for the St. Margaret's Bay Stewardship Association since 2015, and is a board member for both the Bay Treasure Chest and the St. Margaret's Bay Community Enterprise Centre.
Nick feels deeply honoured to have received Provincial and Municipal Volunteer Awards in 2018 for his dedication to his community.As an entrepreneur who graduated from the CEED Entrepreneurship Program in 2012, Nick has owned two local businesses. He helped bring the gourmet food truck scene to Halifax in 2012 with Nomad Gourmet and co-founded the Nova Scotia Food Truck Association, working to set standards and support growth for a new industry. Nick also helped rewrite HRM’s current vending by-laws.
In addition to his invaluable experience in community service, Nick is committed to engaging with residents and helping them engage with one another, with government, and with other groups to preserve what works, fix what doesn’t, and stay with issues until they are resolved.
